DIRECTV APPROVES LG ELECTRONICS TRANSCODER
FOR DELIVERY OF SATELLITE HDTV CONTENT TO HOTEL ROOMS

Key Element of End-to-End High-Definition System for Lodging Industry

Delivery of premium high-definition television (HDTV) satellite programming to hotel rooms is now a reality thanks to "transcoder" technology developed for the lodging industry by LG Electronics and being deployed first by LodgeNet Entertainment Corporation (NASDAQ: LNET).

At HITEC '05, the Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference, LG Electronics announced that DIRECTV Inc., the nation's leading and fastest-growing digital television service provider, has approved the LG's transcoder, a content-secure device that receives DIRECTV satellite HDTV signals and reformats the signal to meet the ATSC digital television standard for distribution through a hotel's existing cabling.

This landmark agreement means that, for the first time, hoteliers will be able to offer guests not only free over-the-air HDTV programming but also premium satellite-delivered HDTV programming such as HBO-HD and HD.Net, according to Richard M. Lewis, senior vice president, LG Electronics USA. "This is a critical event that has unlocked access to the large and ever growing amount of HD content," he said.

"The digital delivery of premium DIRECTV HDTV content to the room will create a new standard in the industry for the guest entertainment experience," said James Arnold, senior vice president, Sales and Distribution, DIRECTV, Inc. "The LG transcoder is a key element of our strategy to serve the lodging industry with compelling HDTV content."

The development also is important to LodgeNet Entertainment Corporation, one of the world's largest providers of interactive television and broadband solutions to the lodging industry, which is the first to employ the LG Electronics-DIRECTV solution, and worked closely with LG on its development.
